Features of the STIHL MS181

The Stihl MS181 Chainsaw features reduced-emission engine technology, which lowers fuel consumption and emissions while maintaining good cutting speed. This chainsaw features a 31.8 cm3 STIHL 2-MIX engine producing 2.0hp in a lightweight package. The MS181 has a side-mounted chain tensioning system for easy maintenance and adjustment and features a long-life filter system to prevent premature clogging of the air filter. Metal bumper spikes easily and precisely guide the saw into the cut.

ADVANCED COMBUSTION TECHNOLOGY

Four overflow channels mix the air and fuel before ignition allows optimum combustion and maximum efficiency. The end result is lowered fuel consumption as well as high-torque across a broad rpm range.

STIHL 2-MIX-ENGINE

Economical 2-MIX engine with 1-in-4 channel technology features a high torque over a wide speed range. The Stihl MS181 provides fuel savings up to 20% when compared to Stihl 2-stroke engines of a similar performance class without the 2-MIX technology included. Exhaust emissions are reduced by up to 50% because of this innovation.

ANTI VIBRATION

Vibration at the handles of tools like chainsaws can lead to adverse long-term effects on blood vessels in the arms and hands. STIHL has developed this anti-vibration system. The oscillations from the machine’s engine are dampened down with a view to significantly lowering vibrations.

PRE-SEPARATION AIR FILTRATION SYSTEM

STIHL long-life air filtration systems with pre-separation achieve longer filter life compared with  more conventional filter systems. The larger, heavier air particles are ejected as the air is pulled in and swirled round. The pre-cleaned air is routed to the air filter via the pre-separator duct.

COMPENSATOR

This controller in the chainsaws carburettor will prevent the fuel / air mixture getting richer as the air filter starts to become clogged. The correct quantity of fuel is then delivered to the carburettor depending on the quantity of air passing through the filter. This keeps the fuel/air ratio in the combustion mixture constant, which is reflected in the engines power. The filter does not need to be cleaned until an noticeable drop in power output is seen.

SINGLE LEVER MASTER CONTROL

All important functions such as start, choke, throttle and stop are operated via a single lever on the chainsaws handle.

SIDE CHAIN TENSIONER

The tension screw is found on the side of the saw through the sprocket cover. This totally removes the need for hand contact with the sharp chain.

EMATIC CHAIN LUBRICATION SYSTEM

The Ematic chain lubrication system ensures precise lubrication of the saw chain links and bar rails. When used with STIHL OILOMATIC saw chain, it will provide the maximum lubrication, longer wear and reduced oil consumption than conventional methods of chain lubrication. The Ematic system can reduce bar oil consumption by up to 50%.
